Ahmedabad, Nov 22: Sagar Savalia, who ran the ‘Vikas Gando Thayo Chhe’ (development has gone crazy) campaign against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Gujarat, attacked Hardik Patel for diverting his attention from Patidar reservation to electoral politics. “Hardik, I used to say that the brutal BJP government should be uprooted. Even you have given the clarion call of ‘BJP ne padi do’ (defeat BJP). But now as elections are around the corner…PAAS leaders are involved in internal infighting over ticket allocation and are opposing the Congress publicly for their personal interests,” Sagar Savalia wrote on Facebook. The social media campaign by Savalia, a civil engineering student from Ahmedabad, brought major embarrassment for the BJP ahead of Assembly polls.

Sagar Savalia also took on Hardik Patel for delaying the announcement to support the Congress in the Gujarat Assembly elections. “The community wants to defeat the BJP but your leaders are opposing the Congress…who should the community support?……I had an issue with Dinesh Bambhania who has been criticizing the Congress. When Patidars talk about defeating the BJP, the message is clear that the Congress must be supported,” he went on to say on the social networking site.

The “Vikas gando thayo chhe” campaign became a huge hit on social media and provided potent ammunition for PAAS and Congress to question the BJP’s claims on development in Gujarat. The Congress took a cue from the campaign and Rahul Gandhi began almost all his public meetings with the question: “Vikas ko Gujarat me kya hua hai (What has happened to vikas in Gujarat?).” The audience would roar that vikas had gone crazy.

Meanwhile, Hardik Patel on Wednesday announced that his PAAS will fight against the BJP and has accepted the formula advanced by the Congress party to give job quotas to the community under the OBC category. “We are not openly extending support to Congress, but we will fight BJP. So directly or indirectly, there will be support to Congress,” he said.
