Padmavati Controversy: Not Right to Ban a Film in State Before Censor Board Decision, Says Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar - JPKee.com

New Delhi, Nov 22: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has said that he will take a decision on the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmavati in his state only after the Central Board of Film Certification’s decision. Even as many chief ministers have said no to the release of the film in their states, Khattar has said that banning the film before the censor board’s decision was not right.

“We will take a decision on Padmavati only after censor board clearance. We will not allow anyone’s sentiments to be hurt. We don’t think it is right to ban (a film) before censor board’s decision,” Khattar said while addressing the media on Wednesday.

Khattar’s stand is different from the many chief ministers who have raised objections to the release of Padmavati. His Bharatiya Janata Party colleague and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had earlier this week said that he won’t allow the release of Padmavati, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor, in the state.

“Etihaisik tathyon se khilwaad kar agar Padmavati ji ke samman ke khilaaf film mein drishya dikhaye gaye hain, uss Film ka pradharshan Madhya Pradesh ki dharti par nahi hoga (If Padmavati’s distorted history is shown in the film, and the film insults her, that film will not be allowed to be released in Madhya Pradesh),” Chouhan said.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje has also said that the film will not be released in the state till changes are made according to the suggestions given to the Centre. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath also hit out at Sanjay Leela Bhansali for hurting the sentiments of people. Adityanath said that if those threatening actors of the film (Padmavati) are guilty, then the director himself is no less guilty.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh also came out in support of the protesters raising concerns against Padmavati. “Nobody will accept distortion of history and those who are protesting are rightly doing so,” Captain Singh said on Monday.
