Where Are Family Members of Other Congress Veterans, Asks BJP on Rahul Gandhi’s Imminent Elevation - JPKee.com

New Delhi, Nov 21: No one from outside the Nehru-Gandhi family could lead the Congress party as it had turned into a private limited company, the Bharatiya Janata Party said on Monday, taking a dig at the much-awaited elevation of Rahul Gandhi.
“Rahul’s elevation was always on the cards, there is nothing new. Congress leaders have been echoing for the past two years but where are the family members of other Congress veterans like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Rajendra Prasad, Subhash Chandra Bose?” Times of India quoted senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad as saying.
The Union Minister also asserted that the ruling BJP did not consider him (Rahul) as a challenge as the Opposition had lost all elections at all levels under his leadership. BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao stated that performance and capability did not matter for the Congress party as they practice dynasty politics.
Taking a dig at the Opposition over yesterday’s CWC meeting, Rao said,”It seems Sonia Gandhi wanted to pass the leadership mantle to son Rahul Gandhi before yet another impending defeat in Gujarat which would have made it embarrassing for the Congress to reward him after a defeat,” he said.
Earlier on Monday, the CWC had approved the schedule for the much-awaited election to the top party post, which has been occupied by Sonia Gandhi for a record 19 years since 1998, when she replaced Sitaram Kesri.
As per the party sources, the election process will kick off on December 1 with the beginning of filing of nominations. The last date for nominations is December 4, until 3 pm. Following scrutiny of nominations on December 5, the list of valid candidatures will be put out on the same day at 3:30 pm.
Gandhi, the 47-year-old vice president, is likely to be the sole candidate in the fray and is deemed to be the next party chief on December 5, a few days before the Gujarat Assembly polls. Counting of votes and declaration of results will take place on December 19.
