‘Missile Woman of India’ Tessy Thomas to be NITI Aayog’s Speaker in Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017: Key Facts - JPKee.com
New Delhi, Nov 25: Tessy Thomas is the speaker for National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog in the upcoming Global Entrepreneurship Summit 2017. Thomas is the first woman scientist to head a missile project in India and hence gained the nickname ‘Missile Woman of India’. The summit will be attended by entrepreneurs and world leaders, including Adviser to US President Ivanka Trump.
Who is Tessy Thomas?
- She is the Project Director for Agni-IV missile in Defence Research and Development Organisation
- She was conferred the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award for her outstanding contribution for making India self-reliant in
- She was the associate project director of the 3,000 km range Agni-III missile project as well
- She was also appointed as the Project Director for 5,000 km range Agni-V in 2009
- She was awarded D.Sc. (Honoris causa) by ITM University, Gwalior in 2016
- She is also called ‘Agniputri’ for her contribution to the Agni missile projects
- She was born in April 1963 in Alappuzha, Kerala, to a small-businessman father and a homemaker mother
- She graduated in engineering from Government Engineering College, Thrissur
- Reportedly she grew up near a rocket launching station and her fascination with rockets and missiles began then
- She is also an M.Tech graduate in Guided Missile from the Institute of Armament Technology, Pune
About GES 2017
NITI Aayog is hosting the eighth annual Global Entrepreneurship Summit in India from November 28 to November 30, 2017 in partnership with the Government of the United States of America. The Summit will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The US delegation will be led by Ivanka Trump.
