London: Oxford Circus Underground Station Evacuated After ‘Incident’, Armed Police on Scene - JPKee.com



London, Nov 24: Oxford Circus underground station in London was evacuated amid reports of a gun shooting on Oxford Street. It was earlier treated as a terrorist-related incident but the Metropolitan Police later reported that they didn’t find any evidence of “shots fired or casualties”. Three fire engines and 15 firefighters were sent to Oxford Circus tube station immediately after the initial reports of a shooting on Oxford Street and people were advised to avoid travelling to the area.


Updating on the incident at the Leicester Square on Oxford Street, the Metropolitan Police said that the police officers still on scene and are searching the area. “If you are in a building stay there, if you are on the street in Oxford Street leave the area. Officers continue to search the area,” it said, adding, “Additional officers remain on duty in the West End to reassure the public.”




Earlier there were reports of shots being fired at the Oxford Circus tube station and people could be seen hiding and running away in panic.

“If you are on Oxford Street go into a building and stay inside until further direction,” it said. The British Transport Police (BTP) confirmed that armed police have surrounded the station and are investigating the case. “Oxford Circus Station is closed while we investigate a customer incident,” Transport for London said in a statement. Oxford Circus and Bond Street station have been closed.


One of the eyewitnesses said that hundreds of people took shelter in a pub near the Oxford Circus station. Another tweeted images of people hiding in a cafe.
