Egypt Mosque Terror Attack: World Leaders Tweet Condolences, Condemn Killing - JPKee.com



Sinai, Nov 24: Following the attack on the mosque in Egypt’s Northern Sinai province on Friday which killed 235 and injured over 130, world leaders took to micro-blogging site Twitter to express their condolences and condemn the act of terror. Friday’s attack has been declared as an unprecedented attack and President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi said those responsible for it will be responded with ‘brute force’.


While the world community censured the attack, no terror group has yet claimed responsibility for it. The attackers targetted those offering their weekly prayers in the mosque situated in the al-Rawda area near the provincial capital of El-Arish.


Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Friday late evening expressing his condolences and stressing upon that India stands together with the world in fighting terrorism.


“Strongly condemn the barbaric terrorist attack on a place of worship in Egypt. Our deep condolences at the loss of innocent lives. India resolutely supports the fight against all forms of terrorism and stands with the people as well as Government of Egypt,” PM Modi said.




President of the United States Donald Trump also tweeted out calling the attack an act of cowardice and praying for the families of those who were victims of this ‘despicable’ attack.


“Horrible and cowardly terrorist attack on innocent and defenseless worshipers in Egypt. The world cannot tolerate terrorism, we must defeat them militarily and discredit the extremist ideology that forms the basis of their existence!” the POTUS tweeted.




Prime Minister of United Kingdom Theresa May called the attacks ‘sickening’ ‘evil’ and ‘cowardly’.


Appalled by the sickening attack on a mosque in North Sinai. Condolences with all those in #Egypt affected by this evil and cowardly act.



US Vice President Mike Pence also took to the micro-blogging site to express grief and emphasised that one cannot allow terror forces to win.


Such an evil and cowardly terrorist attack on worshipers in Egypt. Our condolences & prayers are with the victims & their families. Our strength & resolve will overpower their extremist ideology. We cannot & will not allow terrorists to win.



According to the local police, gunmen arrived in four off-road vehicles and bombed the mosque. Reportedly, the assailants also set the vehicles parked in the area on fire to block off access to the mosque. The attackers also opened fire upon the people as they tried exiting the mosque. Soon after the incident was reported, 30 ambulances were deployed to the spot. The attackers also fired upon the ambulances, eye witnesses claimed.
