New Delhi: Barcelona star forward Lionel Messi has signed a new contract at the club through to the end of the 2020/21 season. The Argentine’s new contract includes a stunning €700m buy-out clause which is enough to end all speculation over a future move away from the Nou Camp.

The new deal also means that by the end of the 2020/21 season, Messi, who graduated from the famed La Masia academy, will have spent a total of 17 years with Barcelona’s first team.

Messi, who joined the La Liga club Barcelona at the age of 13, helped the Catalan Giants win eight Spanish league titles and won four Champions League, five Copa del Reys, seven Spanish Super Cups, three European Cups and three Club World Cups. The 30-year old is Barcelona’s all-time top goalscorer and he has scored 523 goals for the club in his 602 games.

Messi is La Liga’s all-time top goalscorer and also holds the record for most goals scored in a season with 50 goals in. The southpaw has won the Ballon d’Or on five occasions and on Friday was presented with his fourth Golden Shoe as Europe’s top scorer last season with 37 goals. He has also won six La Liga Player of the Year honour.
