Egypt Attack: Sinai Mosque Death Toll Rise to 305, Including 27 Children - JPKee.com



Sinai, Nov 25: A day after the deadly attack on a mosque at the Northern Sinai province of Egypt, the death toll rose to 305. According to a report, among those killed were 27 children, who were present at the mosque to offer the weekly prayers.


Following the attacks, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that the Egyptian security forces would avenge the deaths and restore stability in the region. Terrorist bombed and fired at people assembled at the mosque situated in the al-Rawda area near the provincial capital of El-Arish. The Army, earlier today, claimed to have destroyed the vehicles which were used for the attack.


The State is observing three days of mourning and condolences pored in from across the globe, with people censuring the attack and Egyptian authorities calling it ‘unprecedented’.


On Saturday, Army spokesperson Tamer el-Refai said in a statement that the air forces launched retaliatory attacks on terror hideouts in the surrounding area of North Sinai, killing militants and destroying vehicles used in the deadly attack.


On Friday, a notification by the Ministry of Health claimed that over 75 persons were injured after an attack on the mosque. However, later, the number of casualty in the attack was announced and ever since then it have been increasing. Over 130 person were also severely injured in the attack, reports claimed.


Attackers allegedly used improvised explosive devices (IED) which initially went off. They also had reportedly set the vehicles parked in the area on fire to block the entrance to the mosque. After the blast as people rushed out of the exit, the militants opened fire on them.


Police sources claimed the attackers were riding off-road vehicles.


Soon after the attack, 30 ambulances were deployed but the attackers reportedly also fired upon the ambulances.


Most of the worshipers in the mosque were allegedly sympathisers of the military government in the nation and were followers of Sufism, reports claimed.


The global community censured the attacks, with Indian PM Narendra Modi saying that India stands with Egypt in its war against terrorism. US President Donald Trump called the attacks ‘cowardly’ and said his prayers are with those affected by the ‘despicable’ attack. He also called for action against all agents of terror in his tweet.
