It has been nine years since the horrific 26/11 terrorist attacks in Mumbai. The shootings and bombings lasted for four days and ended only on November 29, 2008. Social media is pouring in with tributes to the lives that died fighting for the country. President Ramnath Kovind also tweeted on the ninth anniversary of the deadly attacks offering tributes to the personnel who gave their lives in the battle. Twitterati also lauding the brave hearts who laid their lives fighting the evil. Politicians, celebrities, commoners, leaders have been tweeting remembering the day.

Ten terrorists entered Mumbai on November 26, 2008, by the sea with deadly weapons to carry attacks in prominent places of the city. The attack that lasted over 4 days killed around 164 people and injured 305. Hotel Taj, a major tourist attraction of the city was among the main points of attack. Nariman House, Oberoi Trident, Leopold Cafe, Cama Hospital, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus ‘CST’ railway station was also attacked by terrorists. The terrorists also opened fire at pedestrians and entered Cama Hospital where they were confronted by a team of the Mumbai Police headed by Hemant Karkare. In a gunfire, he was killed along with two other officers.

The gunmen killed 10 people including foreigners in Leopold Cafe and also caused explosions in taxis using timer bombs.



President Ram Kovind also paid tributes to the people who died in the attacks.




The Taj Hotel was cleared after NSG commandos took charge and killed the terrorists. One of the masterminds of the attack, Hafiz Saeed was granted freedom by the Pakistan government.




The Mumbai Police has organised a Salutation Ceremony at the Shahid Smarak at Police Gymkhana at Marine Lines at 9 AM today to pay homage to the people killed in the attacks. Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, DGP Satish Mathur, city police commissioner Datta Padsalgikar, ministers, senior bureaucrats, police officials and family members of martyrs would pay homage to those who were killed in the attack. Hundreds of people will pay tribute to the martyrs at the places of attack.
