Vantablack: Building Made of Darkest Black Material on Earth To be Unveiled at 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea - JPKee.com
Other than the athletics and sports at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea, there is something else that is going to garner the audience’s attention. It is a colourless building that is going to grab a lot of attention. It will appear in the darkest black when contrasted with snow due to the absence of colour. British architect, Asif Khan will use Vantablack which reflects very little light and is said to be the darkest man-made substance in the world. Vantablack is so black that the human eye won’t really be able to decipher what it is seeing. It was first developed by Surrey NanoSystems in 2014.
Reportedly, Vantablack absorbs 99.96 perfect of the light that hits its surface. CNN quoted Ben Jensen, co-founder of Surrey NanoSystems as saying, “When you have no light reflected back to the viewer, you see nothing, so your brain paints it as black.” Van, when used as a coating, coating appears to change the dimensions of an object, making 3D objects look completely flat. Khan told CNN, “It will be like you’re looking into the depths of space itself… As you approach the building that star field will grow to fill your entire field of view, and then you’ll enter as though you’re being absorbed into a cloud of blackness.”

Khan hopes it to be a philosophical experience for people if they feel the “void of indefinite depth and possibility”. The Guinness World Records has recognised Vantablack as the blackest man-made substance while it is not black. It is made of millions of tubes of carbon that absorb light and can absorb 99.96 percent of the light that hits its surface. It was originally created for scientific experiments in space and later found its use among artists and designers.
