Tata Motors Dealers’ Have Stopped Placing Order For World’s Cheapest Car Nano - JPKee.com

Ahmedabad, Nov 26: The dealers of Tata Motors have stopped placing orders for Tata Nano car following a huge dip in consumer demand in last few months. Even though the company reassured any decision regarding its production will be taken after reviewing passenger vehicle strategy, the company registered a low level of production in its Sanand plant in Gujarat. The consumers have also shown a preference for its newer models including Tiago, Tigor, Hexa and Nexon.

A report by the Business Standard stated the company dispatched 180 Nanos to its 630 sales outlets this August (against 711 in August 2016). The number came down to 124 units in September and further dipped to just 57 units in October. It added the plant is producing only two units of nano per day.

 “A dealer in Himachal Pradesh had some buyers and I made an internal dealer transfer of a few cars to him, made possible by the GST. I sold a few units at discounts ranging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000. I am left with four-five units,” Business Standard quoted a dealer as saying.

The vendor of different auto parts said they have reduced production for Tata Nano. “Production for Nano is not viable. But we also supply parts for Tiago and to the nearby plants of Ford and Maruti. Our plant at Sanand is thus running. We have not stopped making parts for Nano yet, but from how things look, production could stop soon,” said a vendor.

Earlier, a spokesperson had said the company is not contemplating to end the production of car hailed as world’s cheapest car.”There have been a lot of discussions around the future of Nano and the emotional connect with the vehicle, leading to several conclusions. No decision has been taken on Nano yet as this cannot be done in isolation. Decisions regarding any product will be taken in context of the entire Passenger Vehicle Strategy,” the official said.
