Sushma Swaraj to Attend SCO Summit in Russia on November 30; Pakistan’s Representative Yet to be Decided - JPKee.com



New Delhi, Nov 26: India and Pakistan likely to come face-to-face at the upcoming summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in the Russian city of Sochi.  While external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj will represent India, it is yet to be known who will head Pakistan’s delegation at the upcoming summit, which is expected to be held on November 30 and December 1.


Addressing media on Saturday, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said,”Swaraj will arrive there on November 29 and she will have bilateral meetings on November 30. She will also attend the reception hosted by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.”


“Swaraj will also attend the restricted meeting of the heads of delegations on December 1, which will be followed by the preliminary sessions. On the same evening the External Affairs Minister will again attend a reception hosted by the Russian Prime Minister for all members of the delegations. She would depart from Sochi on December 2 and will reach Delhi on the same day,” Kumar added.


On being asked if the external affairs minister will have bilateral meetings with the Pakistan Foreign Minister or call on Chinese premier Li Keqiang, Kumar said her schedule is still being finalised. “At this stage we cannot say anything,” he said.


On whether India will raise at the summit the issue of release of Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed from house arrest and the larger challenge of terrorism, Kumar said India has been working with like-minded countries to deal with the meanace.


Earlier in June, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had attended the SCO summit in Astana, the capital city of Kazakhstan.
