Rajinikanth And Mammootty To Re-Unite For Their Debut Marathi Film? - JPKee.com

It was in 1991 that Tamil superstar Rajinikanth and Malayalam superstar Mammootty collaborated for the Tamil crime drama Thalapathy. Needless to say it was a huge hit and fans of the two actors were on cloud nine! The film was so well received that soon the makers decided to release it once again, after its successful run at the theatres, with alternative endings to suit the different sensibilities in both Tamil Nadu and Kerala respectively. And now as if to make the fans go on a frenzy yet again, reports indicate that the superstar duo is set to reunite for their Marathi debut, Pasaayadan, directed by a debut filmmaker Deepak Bhave.

The film is expected to go on floors in February next year.  Word has it that it was politician-turned-producer, Balkrishna Surve, who convinced Rajinikanth to come on board this project. The film comes as a pleasant surprise for fans around the world as in recent times, there were rumours of ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam re-uniting the two superstars in his upcoming film. There were other industry officials who stated that Mammootty would be making a special appearance in Pa Ranjith’s forthcoming crime-thriller, Kaala Karikaalan, which will feature Rajinikath as a Mumbai-based don. While we are yet to get any official confirmation on these two projects from the duo, reports of the two collaborating for the Marathi film has definitely piqued our interests and got us excited! For the uninitiated, debut filmmaker Deepak Bhave had last worked on Deepak Gawade’s Marathi Drama, Idak, as a co-writer. The film premiered at the 48th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on Friday in Goa and was praised for its novel story. The narrative of the film is based on the life of a man who ventures on a journey with his goat to make his mother’s dreams come true. Meanwhile, Rajnikanth’s fans are gearing up for his next huge sci-fi, titled 2.0, which also happens to be the sequel to Enthiraan. The film also stars Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson in pivotal roles. The release date of the movie is yet to be disclosed.
