Kashmir: Government Plans to Build 100 Bunkers Near Line of Control, For Civilians Not Soldiers - JPKee.com

Jammu, Nov 24: The government is planning to build 100 bunkers by the end of November at the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. The development has come in wake of the increasing ceasefire violations from Pakistan. The J&K government said that building bunkers for the civilians is one of the priorities so that they don’t migrate to other safer areas leaving their homes.
Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh said that the state government will do whatever is needed to protect the civilians from firing, reported NDTV. As per reports, the state government is planning to build 100 bunkers by November 30. Each bunker has the capacity to accommodate 1500 people.
One of the civilians said that the bunkers will be a great help during the time of ceasefire violations. “We can stay inside the bunkers anytime during the night and night. These bunkers are the only shelters for us,” a civilian, Tousi Devi, told NDTV. She said that all of her life savings were destroyed when a shell destroyed her house seven months ago.
According to the report, the unexploded shells lying on roads and fields pose a greater threat. The Indian Army has launched a drive to clear the area off the unexploded shells. “All the live bombs have been defused by army engineers from Poonch,” a civilian said.
