IIT Student, Son of Daily-wage Labourer, Raises Rs 10 Lakh For Poor Children - JPKee.com

Mumbai, Nov 22: Brijesh Saroj, the son of a daily wage worker in Uttar Pradesh, had got his dream of entering the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) fulfilled in 2015 when he and his brother Raju passed the examination by getting high ranks on JEE merit list. Money was a big problem, but people of the country showed their generosity. Now, the brothers want to help under-privileged students like themselves; hence they have raised a sum of Rs 10 lakh to monetarily help them.
Brijesh Saroj is studying at IIT, Bombay to pursue a degree in electronics. He has raised Rs 10 lakh for underprivileged children.
Brijesh and his brother Raju had secured 167 and 410 ranks respectively, but it was impossible for them to generate Rs 1 lakh as fee for IIT. When media covered the news, people from across the globe pitched in and help them get through the adversity. The Union human resource development ministry also gave them a fee waiver. Raju is studying at IIT-Kharagpur.
Brijesh says that the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya helped them to get into IIT and they want this possible for as many children as possible. He and Raju are preparing children for admission to the government-funded school.
Brijesh is currently preparing for civil services. He said he likes his studies at IIT-Bombay, but he wanted to be an IAS officer. He said he would not be available for placements.
