IIT-Kanpur to Conduct Artificial Rains in Lucknow to Reduce Air Pollution - JPKee.com



Lucknow, Nov 20: Days after many cities of Uttar Pradesh were declared dangerously polluted in the country, Lucknow is gearing itself to witness first artificial rains through cloud seeding. The IIT- Kanpur scientists have completed their experiments to conduct artificial rains. The institute was given a grant of Rs 15 lakh from the state government to explore the option of artificial rains.


“IIT Kanpur got the project on artificial rains from the Uttar Pradesh Council of Science and Technology a few months back. For this, the institute has got a grant of Rs 15 lakh,” Officiating Director of IIT Kanpur, Manindra Agrawal was quoted by PTI as saying.


Agarwal added that they have asked the Union civil aviation ministry for its approval for conducting artificial rains. The area where artificial rain is needed should have cloud cover.


“The measure will definitely reduce air pollution levels. Aerospace, civil engineering and industrial management engineering departments are working on this project,” added Agarwal.


The state is battling the increased levels of pollution. Even, the Varanasi was declared the most polluted city in the country. A  report by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has found that the air quality of holy city Varanasi is most polluted among the 42 cities monitored recently.
