Hibiscus Mistaken For Marijuana by US Police, Lawsuit Filed - JPKee.com
A couple from Pennsylvania is suing the local police for wrongfully detaining and interrogating them on suspicion of growing marijuana in their background. The couple was questioned for four hours and questioned about the plant, except it wasn’t marijuana, claimed the couple in a lawsuit. The couple has sued three police officers from Buffalo Township Police Department in Pennsylvania in the United States and an insurance officer in the incident. Reportedly, 69-year-old Edward Cramer and his 66-year-old Audrey in a lawsuit said that they were treated them like criminals although they committed no crime.

In their lawsuit, the couple said the issue began when their insurance agent visited their home to assess a property damage claim. He took pictures of their hibiscus plants believing it to be marijuana and sent it to the police. Two days later, some officers came to their home with a search warrant. According to the Tribune-Review, when Audrey opened the door there were roughly a dozen cops “pointing assault-style rifles at her”. The police then handcuffed the couple and held them in back of a police vehicle while they searched the house for drugs. Audrey was alleged only wearing an underwear during the incident.
The allegations in the lawsuit include the use of excessive force, false arrest, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress and invasion of privacy. “I was not treated as though I was a human being, I was just something they were going to push aside. I asked them again if I could put pants on and he told me, no and I had to stand out on the porch,” said Audrey told WPXI. The police company and insurance agent are yet to respond to the incident.
