Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017: Patidars to Hold Massive Protest Today After Congress-PAAS Workers Clash Over Seat Sharing - JPKee.com

New Delhi, Nov 20: As soon Congress released the first list of 77 candidates for upcoming Gujarat Assembly Elections, clash broke out in some parts of poll bound state between Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) workers and the main Opposition party in the late hours of Sunday. The agitated protestors allegedly vandalised Congress office in Surat.
Expressing dismay over ticket distribution, PAAS members alleged that they had been sidelined in ahead of assembly polls in the state. “The Congress has given tickets to two of our members without taking us into confidence. Other Patel candidates that they have selected are bogus. We will hold a massive protests against Congress on Monday,” a local PAAS convenor Alpesh Kathiria was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Talking to a leading daily Times of India, Dharmik Malaviya, Surat PAAS convener, said that the Patidar leaders would not allow the city Congress office to operate unless they got a proper share in seat sharing.
“We’ll rethink about extending our support to them (Congress), who are shirking their responsibility. We’ll also ask public to rethink about Congress, because they are not answering a simple question. How can we expect to be heard when our questions are also not being answered by Congress?”PAAS leader Dinesh Patel said while speaking to ANI in Ahmedabad.
“We’ll ask our party candidates to not file a nomination. If they still do, we’ll protest against them also,” he added.
Earlier on Sunday, the main Opposition party released its first list of 77 candidates for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections 2017. The list comes hours after the Congress announced that it had struck a deal with Hardik Patel’s PAAS for Patel reservation in jobs and education.
The Congress, which has been out of power in the key western state for over 22 years now, has been trying hard to increase its tally in the state. In 2012, Congress won 57 out of 182 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) registered victory on 119 seats.
