Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017: PAAS Leaders Were Working as Agents of Congress, They Have Been Exposed, Says CM Vijay Rupani - JPKee.com

Ahmedabad, Nov 20: The clash with Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) workers over ticket distribution for the Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017 has left the Congress on the backfoot. The Bharatiya Janata Party has hit out at the Congress at the ruckus that played out on Sunday. Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that the clash has exposed how PAAS leaders were working as “agents of Congress”. “PAAS leaders were working as agents of Congress, and now they have been totally exposed,” Rupani said on Monday.

Rupani’s comments came a day after clashes broke out in some parts of the poll bound Gujarat between Congress and PAAS workers after the party released its first list of 77 candidates for the upcoming polls. Some PAAS protesters allegedly vandalised Congress office in Surat.

PAAS members alleged that they had been sidelined ahead of assembly polls in the state. “The Congress has given tickets to two of our members without taking us into confidence. Other Patel candidates that they have selected are bogus. We will hold a massive protests against Congress on Monday,” a local PAAS convenor Alpesh Kathiria was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Miffed over ticket distribution, PAAS leader Dinesh Patel also said that they will oppose the Congress if their concerns are not addressed. “We’ll rethink about extending our support to them (Congress), who are shirking their responsibility. We’ll also ask public to rethink about Congress, because they are not answering a simple question. How can we expect to be heard when our questions are also not being answered by Congress,” Dinesh Patel said.

The Congress on Sunday released its first list of 77 candidates for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections 2017. The list came hours after the Congress announced that it had struck a deal with Hardik Patel’s PAAS for Patel reservation in jobs and education.
