Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017: Hardik Patel And His Leaders Should Show Patience, Says Congress’s Ashok Gehlot - JPKee.com

Ahmedabad, Nov 20: Congress leader Ashok Gehlot has called for “patience” on the part of Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) leaders following the clashes last night. A day after ruckus between PAAS and Congress workers over ticket distribution for the Gujarat Assembly Elections 2017, Gehlot said that issues can be sorted out through talks. He also hit out at Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani for taking a dig at the Congress over the clashes.

“I condemn this violence, Hardik Patel and his workers should show patience. Issues can be sorted out by talking. Also, Gujarat CM should worry about the fights over ticket distribution in his party and not comment on us,” Gehlot said while talking to ANI.

Clashes broke out in some parts of the poll bound state between Congress and PAAS workers, hours after the party released its first list of 77 candidates for the upcoming elections. Some PAAS protesters allegedly vandalised Congress office in Surat. PAAS members alleged that they had been sidelined ahead of assembly polls in the state.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that the clash has exposed how PAAS leaders were working as “agents of Congress”. “PAAS leaders were working as agents of Congress, and now they have been totally exposed,” Rupani said on Monday.

Not just PAAS, it seems the Congress finds itself in trouble with its old ally, the NCP, too. Nationalist Congress Party leader Praful Patel on Monday said that NCP will fight the polls alone without any alliance with the main Opposition party. Speaking to ANI, Patel said,”We wanted to contest in Gujarat in alliance with Congress and had talks with them too initially, but Congress did not seem serious and kept on delaying, so we will fight alone. Confident that we will do even better.”

The Congress on Sunday released its first list of 77 candidates for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections 2017. The list came hours after the Congress announced that it had struck a deal with Hardik Patel’s PAAS for Patel reservation in jobs and education.
