European Union Expert Warns Against Terrorists Using Killer Virus, Cyber Attack - JPKee.com

London, Nov 24: European Union experts warned security officials that terrorist groups might soon use killer viruses while launching terror attacks. It claimed the ISIS and Al-Qaeda might soon instruct its operatives to use such biological warfare and ways to create them, reports claimed.

The EU’s counter-terrorism coordinator, Gilles de Kerchove said that terror networks based in the Middle East like Al Qaeda and Islamic State (ISIS), could begin using the internet to instruct on the use of biological agents. He added that redressing the grievances of the terror groups which led to the creation of Daesh (ISIS) might lead to a new evolved form of Daesh.

At a conference organised by the UK-based think tank Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London earlier this week, Kerchove said, “If we don’t address the grievances which led to the creation of Daesh (ISIS), Sunni grievances against sectarian Shia policies and state violence from [Syrian President] Assad, we are likely to see the resurgence of something that could be Daesh 2.0.”

Referring to an Al-Qaeda article in its magazine on how to make a bomb at home, Kerchove said, what if a similar article surfaces instructing people to make killer viruses at home. He also said the terrorists might also be planning a cyber-attack and called for counter-terrorism preparedness.

UK’s security minister, Ben Wallace, told the conference a total of eight planned attacks had been thwarted since the ISIS-inspired attack on the UK Parliament building in Westminster in March this year, bringing the total to 21 since 2013. He said a new counter-terrorism strategy is set to be unveiled by the UK government in the New Year, to reportedly keep “one step ahead of the terrorists”.
