Chennai: Sathyabama Deemed University Declares Holidays Till January 3 After Ruckus Following Student’s Suicide - JPKee.com

Chennai, Nov 23: Chennai’s Sathyabama Deemed University has declared leave till January 3, 2018 and has asked the students to vacate hostels immediately after things in the premises were set on fire on Wednesday night by the students who went on a rampage after a girl student, who was caught cheating, committed suicide.  The students even accused the authority of shaming the girl which reportedly prompted her to take the grave step.

Duvvuru Raga Monica Reddy, the first year engineering student hailing from Hyderabad, was writing her second semester engineering chemistry paper when she was caught cheating.

In the videos and the images shared widely on the social media, students of the university can be seen setting up the things on fire in the campus.

Reddy was found hanging from the ceiling of the room by her room mates and her body was sent to the Royapettah government hospital for autopsy.

The parents of the victim are on their way from Hyderabad and have blamed the university authorities of mishandling the situation. The family has reportedly lodged a complaint against the university. Reports say, a case has been registered under section CrPc 174 ( (unnatural death) and further investigations are on.
