Actress Andrea Jeremiah, who is basking in the success and appreciation for the horror film Aval (Tamil), Gruham (Telugu) and The House Next Door (Hindi) has spoken up about casting couch in the film industry. While a lot of people have spoken about the dirty secret, there have been equal number of people who have denied about its existence. As per a report on Tollystar.com, Andrea has acknowledged that casting couch does exist in the film industry. But she also had a theory on why it exists and why does it still remain to flourish.

Making a strong statement, the actress said, that women have the choice and that nobody can force them. “Nobody can force women for sex. Casting couch exists and such cases happen only when women agree to sleep with a man.” The Tamil actress pointed out that there are different ways to reach where one wants to and some women choose the easy path to get what they want.

Andrea also said that only women can change the casting couch reality and bring an end to it. “Whenever someone approaches women with shortcuts they should straightaway reject that offer without giving any second thoughts. Once she rejects, never will there be a casting couch for her,” she opined further saying that women should only believe in hard work and have faith in their talent. Let a few opportunities go instead of compromising.

It is a harsh reality that the film industry is still male dominated and women have to struggle to get the kind of roles they want. Earlier this year, Tamil actress Varalakshmi Sarathkumar revealed her horrifying experience where a programming head of a leading TV channel made a pass at her. Sharing her ordeal on Twitter, the actress shared, “I was in a meeting with the programming head of a leading TV channel. Towards the end of the half hour meeting, he asked me, ‘So when can we meet outside?’ To which I replied, ‘Regarding some other work?’ He said, ‘No… for other things’.

Not just women, even men have to go through this horrifying experience. Ranveer Singh, ahead of the release of Bajirao Mastani had revealed how he had a casting director make sexual advances towards him.
