Air Quality in Delhi NCR ‘Severe’; Pollution Likely to Worsen in Next Three Days - JPKee.com

New Delhi, Nov 26: The Air Quality Index in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) may get worse in the next three days. The AQI on Sunday crossed the 400 level mark at many places in the national capital and weathermen have said that a significant increase in the pollution levels is expected by November 29.

From the last one week, dry and cold northwesterly winds are blowing over most parts of northwestern plains including Delhi and neighbouring areas such as Noida, Faridabad, Gurugram and Ghaziabad which has prevented the formation of fog and even kept the pollution levels under control.

The AQI in Anand Vihar was at 404 on Sunday around 1 AM whereas, it was 390 at 10 AM on Sunday in Shadipur. In Punjabi Bagh, the AQI on Sunday at 1 AM was 375 and at Lodhi Road, the levels reached 352 at 10 AM.

The overall AQI in Delhi was recorded at 322 on Saturday, slightly lower than Saturday’s 335. In the upcoming three days, the PM 2.5 and PM 10 levels in Delhi may touch three times the safe standard at 177 and 296 micrograms, respectively.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, a Western Disturbance is expected to approach the Western Himalayas around November 28. In wake of this weather system, westerly winds will be replaced by southwesterly winds leading to an increase in moisture levels hence, leading to the formation of smog/fog.

A rise in the pollution levels can be expected in Delhi and adjoining areas by November 29 due to the decrease in the wind speed.  In last 24 hours, both day and night temperatures have also increased by one to two degrees over many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh. The minimum temperature on Saturday was recorded at 8.6 degrees Celsius — three degrees below normal.
