Can Karol Bagh’s 108-Feet Hanuman Statue be Airlifted to Avoid Congestion, Delhi High Court Asks Local Authorities - JPKee.com

New Delhi, Nov 20: In a bid to get rid of consequent traffic jams, the Delhi High Court on Monday suggested the local authorities to consider ‘airlifting’ of the iconic 108-foot Hanuman statue in national capital’s Karol Bagh area.
While hearing a PIL filed by an NGO that has sought removal of unauthorised constructions and encroachments in Karol Bagh, a bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar observed that entire skyscrapers have been relocated in the United States.
“Consider if the statue can be airlifted. Speak to the LG. You know, in the US, entire skyscrapers are shifted as a whole,” the bench asserted.
Delhi HC also said that if the civic bodies could at even one place show that the law was being enforced, the mindset of the people of Delhi would change. “Enough opportunities have been given to the municipal corporations to enforce the law but no one wants to do it,” the court added.
As per the reports of Indian Express, the bench had also directed the SHO of Karol Bagh police station, the central range DCP and the chief engineer of the PWD to conduct an inquiry and get details regarding people who were responsible for erecting the idol.
